Composite Fillings

In the past, fillings were made from either gold or a silver-coloured alloy called amalgam.

Although these materials are extremely durable, the main disadvantage is that they don’t match the natural white teeth in appearance. White fillings, also known as composite fillings, are made from a durable tooth-coloured material that restores the appearance of a previously filled tooth, giving your teeth a more natural look.

Using composite is a completely safe procedure, it can be used for new fillings or to replace any old metal fillings to give your teeth a more natural overall appearance.

Composite resin fillings are the most commonly used tooth-coloured restoration and can be colour-matched to the surrounding natural teeth. Placed by chemically bonding to the tooth, these fillings are not only strong but less destructive to your natural tooth structure. Composite fillings are versatile and can be used to repair small to moderate cavities, chipped or broken teeth, and to replace old silver fillings.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a great alternative for suitable patients to replace gaps in the mouth. There are different types of bridges available these days, some require crowns for support and others a metal wing attached to a strong, healthy neighbouring tooth. The artificial tooth on a dental bridge can be sized, shaped and colour matched to your existing teeth, creating a natural looking smile.

Besides dental implants, there are two main ways to replace missing teeth. The first is with a removable false tooth or teeth – a partial denture. The second is with a fixed dental bridge.

A dental bridge is usually used where there are fewer teeth to replace, or when the missing teeth are only on one side of the mouth. Dental bridges are usually made of a precious metal base.

If the dental bridge is likely to show, then porcelain is bonded to the base. There are other non-precious metals available to reduce the cost. A dental bridge can be used to replace missing teeth for several important reasons; your appearance is one reason. Another is that the gap left by a missing tooth can mean greater strain is put on the teeth at either side.

A gap can also mean your ‘bite’ is affected, because the teeth next to the space can lean into the gap and alter the way the upper and lower teeth bite together. This can then lead to food getting packed into the gap, which may cause both decay and gum disease.

Dental Crowns

A crown is a dental restoration that completely covers or surrounds the tooth. Crowns are often needed when the tooth structure has been weakened perhaps by having root canal treatment or damage to the tooth such as a crack or extensive tooth decay. They are often used in cosmetic smile makeovers as nowadays they can be sized, shaped and colour matched to your existing teeth, creating a natural looking smile.

Dental crowns are an ideal restoration for teeth that have been damaged or weakened by decay or a very large filling. They can be made of porcelain or gold or a combination of these materials.

A dental crown could be used for a number of other reasons; you may have discoloured fillings and would like to improve the appearance of the tooth, you may have had a root filling which will need a crown to protect it or a crown may help hold a bridge or denture firmly in place.

Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal treatments are carried out when the inside of the tooth becomes infected or damaged. Infection and damage to the root can be very painful, creating inflammation with the risk of severe pain and swelling. Root Canal Treatment eliminates the cause of the pain by completely removing the diseased or damaged tissue from the tooth.

The root canal is meticulously cleaned, shaped and decontaminated, before securely filling it back up with a durable, inert material. This means you can be pain free whilst still keeping your original tooth.

Dentures
